Woman In US Now Have A Higher Life Expectancy For 6 Years

Life Expectancy Differences Between The Sexes Are Increasing

We have always heard ‘women live longer than men.’ But how about we give you a medical study that actually shows the number? A recent analysis shows that women in the US have a higher life expectancy than their male counterparts. The life expectancy gap between the two sexes has increased to 6 years from 4.5 years in 2010.

The overall life expectancy of human beings has decreased by 2.5 years after the Covid 19 pandemic. The pandemic is also contributing to the life expectancy gap between the two sexes.

The new data was brought to light after a new analysis by the National Center of Health Sciences. According to a study by Trusted Source that was just submitted to the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, women in the US now live 5.8 years longer on average than men do, which is the largest difference between the sexes since 1996. “We anticipated that the opioid crisis would worsen life expectancy because, between 2015 and 2017, the U.S. experienced a decline in life expectancy for this reason,” stated Dr. Brandon Yan, an author of the study, resident physician at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine, and research collaborator, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Why The Life Expectancy Gap Is A Concern

The life expectancy gap between these two sexes is increasing, and it is indeed a concern.

Data shows that men are indulging in risky behaviors which take care of their health less. On the other hand, they are missing the mental and physical health advocacy that women generally do.Dr. David Cutler, who is a physician at Saint John’s Health Center, said, “It’s not possible for men to adapt to the level of estrogen or other hormonal changes in a woman’s body.

However, they might still be able to mimic certain risk combating behaviors which can lose the chances of accidental deaths.”
